Cannabis in Las Vegas and Nevada
Nevada is one of the most cannabis-friendly states for tourists, largely thanks to Las Vegas. The state went from voter approval in November 2016 to retail sales on July 1, 2017 — a remarkably fast turnaround. Cannabis dispensaries are ubiquitous in the Las Vegas area, with many located near the Strip.
In 2024, Nevada made history by opening the nation's first legal cannabis consumption lounges in Las Vegas, allowing visitors to legally consume cannabis in a social setting for the first time.
Important Rules for Las Vegas Visitors
While cannabis is legal and easily accessible in Las Vegas, there are important rules to follow. You cannot consume cannabis on the Strip sidewalks, in casinos, in hotel rooms (most hotels prohibit it), or in any public space. The new consumption lounges offer a legal alternative for tourists without a private space to consume.
Cannabis cannot be taken to the airport, across state lines, or into federal buildings. Many tourists purchase and consume in their vacation rental properties where allowed by the property owner.
